The Nuclear Weapons Ban Treaty enters into force on January 22. In Hiroshima in 2019, Pope Francis defined the possession of these weapons as "immoral". These words are emblematic of the long magisterium of the Popes from the 20th century to the present day.

THE POPE'S YEAR 2020: THE POWER OF PRAYER IN TIMES OF PANDEMIC
The global health emergency related to the Covid-19 pandemic interrupted international apostolic journeys this year, but the Pope remained close to the faithful through the power of prayer.
Sunday, March 8, the dividing line between "before" and "after". It is the day of the first Angelus of Pope Francis recited, live audio and video from the Library of the Apostolic Palace. The containment imposed by the Covid-19 pandemic is then imminent in Italy. "This Angelus prayer today is a little strange, with the Pope "in a cage" in the Library, but I see you, I am close to you," said Francis at the beginning of the broadcast. Then, at the end, the unexpected: the Pope appears at the window of the Apostolic Palace to bless St. Peter's Square.
It is not yet known, but as the months go by, the square will become empty and silent; it will be filled with the prayer of the Successor of Peter and the hopes of the world. It was here, in fact, that alone, in the rain, on the evening of March 27, Lent Friday, Francis presided over this extraordinary moment of prayer in a time of pandemic, inviting humanity not to be afraid and to entrust itself to the Lord: "We have hope; in the Cross we have been healed and embraced so that nothing and no one can separate us from his redemptive love".
